Become a teacher with the Rivers Teaching School Alliance

The Rivers Teaching Alliance offers a (non-salaried) one year Full-Time School Direct programme and two year Part-Time School Direct Programme in Primary teaching in collaboration with Haybridge SCITT. From 2020 the Rivers Teaching Alliance will also be offering an Undergraduate Programme

What Is School Direct?

School Direct is a school based teacher training programme where you become an Associate Teacher in a school from the very first day of your training.

Why train to teach with the Rivers Teaching School Alliance?

We can offer excellent training which will enable you to put theory into practice, to gain confidence with increasing classroom experience and to benefit from the skills of experienced and successful practitioners within forward thinking schools within our Alliance.

Our ITT programmes provide the experience of training within schools from the start of September, together with high quality subject training delivered by expert practitioners, designed to support all requirements for meeting the Teacher Standards and gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through our provider Haybridge SCITT. You will be trained in an extremely supportive environment based in high-achieving, aspirational schools. We also work alongside Birmingham City University (BCU) which provides the PGCE qualification.

What can the Rivers Teaching School Alliance offer you?

  • Teaching placements across a range of schools in our Alliance

  • Trained mentors in each school to support every aspect of your professional development

  • Regular meetings with other Associate Teachers working within the Alliance

  • Regular pedagogical training sessions

  • Opportunities to visit a range of specialist settings across the Alliance such as a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and Special School

  • Opportunities to experience cross phase training experiences within the Alliance

  • Specific focussed professional development opportunities to fully equip you for your first years in the teaching profession

  • The support of a professional  lead mentor

What are we looking for?

We aim to recruit and retain outstanding new entrants to the teaching profession, providing them with the highest quality training which is robust, innovative and informed by the latest research, to meet the needs of our locality. If you are enthusiastic, ambitious, hard-working and keen to secure outstanding practice – the Rivers Teaching School Alliance will be able to help.
